Dr. Klapper completed his undergraduate studies at Indiana University earning a Phi Beta Kappa while in Bloomington, Indiana. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine with Honors and as a member of the AOA Honor Society. Dr. Klapper completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Baylor of College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where he was selected to be Chief Resident. Dr. Klapper then went on to specialized fellowship training in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute in Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Klapper has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and is the author of several book chapters in the field of ophthalmic plastic surgery. He is a member of both the American and the European Societies of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, as well as the esteemed American Eye Study Club. Dr. Klapper is a scientific reviewer for the Journal of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (USA), EYE (UK), and Graefe's Archive of Clinical Experimental Ophthalmology (Germany).
Dr. Klapper is President of the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology, President-elect of the American Eye Study Club, member of the Practicing Ophthalmologists Advisory Committee for Education (POACE) in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as an active member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American College of Surgeons and numerous other medical professional organizations.
